Last week I finally had the opportunity to meet the rest of the Blackberry Finance team in Singapore. I've been working with them for almost 10-11 months and it was great to finally put a face to a name.
Was also great to see the Singapore office and squeeze in some site seeing in between.
So whats my opinion of Singapore? Well, as they say its a very clean city, but I felt an overall vibe of India, partly driven by there being loads of Indians there. It also feels a bit like Dubai with fancy new infrastructure and exotic cars cruising the streets. The food is great if you like Asian food, however there are plenty of pubs and North American type restaurants if you're getting a bit sick of all the noodles, ramens, stirfrys, etc. There is a myriad of cultures and ethnicities that have evolved in the area. So, when you go to Little China or Little India, you really feel like you're there.
One of the highlights of the trip was going Dragonboating with a friend from work. My back/shoulders/arms were killing for the next 2 days from my poor technique and the lack of exercise lately, however was amazing to jump on a boat that size and pick up full speed with a well coordinated group of paddlers. During the ride we got to see some key landmarks. The bonus was a bit of light rain as we paddled helping us fight off the high heat and humidity (despite it being only 7am)
Another highlight was an evening out with a few team members to
Lau Pa Sat. I'll describe it as a very large food court offering options from the vast array of Asian cuisines. I think the area is best known for its satay skewers that are grilled outside. I ordered a bbq'd fish, a few Tiger beers, and shared some of the different treats the team picked up.
I'll post a few pics from my time there soon, it was lots of fun to visit the Buddhist and Hindu temples.
Another key highlight from the trip was the awesome Muesli at the hotel breakfast. I think I ate it every day!
