Schticky

This has got to be a joke, but they play this commercial on tv all the time. Think they have it in Canada too.

feeling hot hot hot

Friday was hot, really hot.

Apparently record breaking hot for Australia hitting 46-47 degrees. Going outside felt like sitting in a car thats been parked in the sun all day and then turning on the vents that are blowing stale hot air.

With bush fires breaking out all over the country this is not good... looking forward to a bit of rain.

Mangal fera

Reena's wedding was a blast, it all feels like a bit of a blur because the time went so fast, but am so glad we were able to be there for all the main parts. The week of the wedding was intense but so much fun, all the various rituals at home were especially great because so many family members were able to attend from abroad. Our time spent in Canada was full of emotion, happiness and an intensity only experienced at a major life event of a loved one. I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Can't believe my little sister is married. Best of luck to you Reena and Bhavesh, may you live a long happy life together.

I only managed to back up some of the pics before we left so below are a few of my favourites from ones I do have with me. I don't have any pictures from the actual wedding, but hopefully Aamer and Iman can put something up on their blog soon so we can see the highlights.

Now onto the pics:

Big Rubber Ducky

Today we decided to get out for a bit to enjoy the weather, get some groceries and exchange some xmas gifts in the CBD. We randomly came across a booth for the Sydney Festival 2013 which just happened to be starting today and runs till Jan 27th. Part of the opening ceremony was a man doing a 42km marathon on a treadmill alongside a dj, pyrotechnics and a group of dancers. Also, later that night there would be a free outdoor Soul concert. But what really perked our interest was talk about a giant 5 story high rubber ducky floating into Darling Habour to kick of the celebrations.

The duck symbolizes the global waters are our bathtub and to bring the joy and memories that you feel when you see a rubber ducky. (for us it bought back recent memories of Reena and her pithi bath :) )

Pics and news coverage below.

We're hoping to check out some of the other events over the next few weeks. The Ferrython looks fun: Ferrython

Trip back Home

Pri and I just got home from our WONDERFUL trip back home and although we are both nursing a flu (courtesy of many family members being sick and staying in the same house) we couldn't be happier that we made the trip back for Reena's wedding/Christmas.

Our journey started with a 12 hour flight from Sydney to LA which surprisingly went by REALLY fast - I think this might be because we were telling everyone how long of a journey this trip would be before we left.  After narrowly escaping missing our flight to Toronto due to slow US customs officers coupled with 5 other A380's landing at the same time as our flight - we were on our Air Canada flight back home!

The two weeks were spent enjoying LOTS of food like Pri's mum's Sheppard pie on the night we landed and my momma's famous stuffed chicken on Christmas Day.

Some of our highlights were:
  • Family Cooking Fest on Christmas Eve (note to everyone reading - sometimes its more difficult to cook with more people as every chef has their own method)
  • Momma's Bday Party - where Sisterkat, Michael Jijakat, Pri and I lead the famous After Eight relay race. Please see attached demo courtesy of Michael Jijakt:

  • Catching up with some of our closest friends (sorry for those we weren't able to connect with)
  • Eating Chicken Wings - although they weren't as good as we remembered
  • US Shopping Mission :)
  • Opening Giant Christmas Cracker - which we were technically not suppose to bring in our luggage
  • Playing games on Christmas day with family: Rummy-O, Pin the Moustache on the Cowboy, Christmas Scategories
Although the main reason we were there was for Reena's wedding (which Pri will blog about later) - it was great to be back home and experience some snow and cold weather which really makes it feel like Christmas!

Given all of that - we are both really happy with the time spent back at home but are also happy to be back in the Sydney Sun!
